Checking in: Banyan Tree Bali, Ungasan, Indonesia

Situated 70 meters above sea level on a cliff-side near Uluwatu – the Banyan Tree Ungasan Bali is in the perfect location for those seeking some rest and relaxation in Bali. The property overlooks the blue hues of the Indian Ocean off of the southern tip of the island of Bali.

The entire sprawling property of Banyan Tree, Bali, situated above the ocean.

A bird’s eye view of all of the villas at Banyan Tree – all with their own pools!

The sprawling Banyan Tree property is so large that you can request buggies to transport you from your room to the public areas of the resort! The buildings of the resort are all modern designed with traditional Balinese décor and accents.

Upon driving up to Banyan Tree you’re greeted by the large, open-air lobby that overlooks the beautiful blue ocean. During check-in, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles and a delicious welcome drink and chilled towel (to help relieve the Balinese heat!).

The center of the lobby area, with seating areas overlooking the lush grounds and the Indian Ocean on the horizon.

The welcome drink, “Balinese sensation” made of pandan leaves, honey and lime juice.

The sprawling property is home to a gorgeous infinity pool, a beautiful spa, a few restaurants, and even a gallery! You can acquire anything at the gallery from Balinese crafts to resort-wear or signature spa amenities to bring a piece of the Banyan Tree Bali home with you!

Calling the villas at the Banyan Tree, “rooms” would be doing them a giant disservice. Each luxury villa has its own private pool! My one bedroom villa with ocean views was bigger than my first apartment, with a living room, kitchenette, large bedroom (with the comfiest beds, ever!) and huge bathroom.

The bedroom area overlooking the pool and the bed (equipped with a beautiful welcome message)!

The entire villa is surrounded by lush, tropical flora and there’s even a pond from the outdoor area to the inside of the villas! The outdoor “backyard” area was styled with a large day bed as well as two lounges overlooking the very large private pool and jacuzzi.

One of my favorite aspects of the villa was the bathroom. With two showers (one outdoor and one indoor) and a huge bathtub, both surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants – the bathroom in itself is an experience. There’s even a bath menu in the bathroom where you can order a special bath to be drawn up for you. I indulged in a beautiful relaxing bath with rose petals and it was the perfect way to spoil myself during my time at Banyan Tree.

Who wouldn’t want to take a bath that’s this gorgeous?! Especially considering it came with a side of delicious chocolates!

With three restaurants you might find every excuse in the world not to leave the property! Tamarind was under construction during my visit but after indulging at Ju-Ma-Na Restaurant and Bar and Bambu Restaurant – I’m confident that when Tamarind re-opens, it won’t disappoint.

Ju-Ma-Na quickly became my favorite place to head to for a sunset drink. The views from Ju-Ma-Na are to die for. A cliffside location with beautiful views of Indian Ocean hues serving French cuisine with a Japanese twist. You can opt to sit in or outside (but if you’re going to want to catch the sunset – I suggest sitting outside). Bambu is where I found myself enjoying breakfast – but you can dine here with international options for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The pastry selection for breakfast at Bambu was to die for!

You can also order from a menu selection of eggs, French toast, pancakes, smoothies and more.

A perfect seat to catch the sunset at Banyan Tree can be found at Ju-Ma-Na – and it comes paired with a delicious cocktail menu!

If you’re as lucky as I was – you’ll be able to catch a gorgeous sunset like this one!

The best part about dining at Banyan Tree? The additional experiences they can create for you in your villa! You can order an in-villa bar-be-que where a chef comes right to your outdoor area in your villa to cook up some BBQ.

I indulged in a floating breakfast (yes, you read that right, floating – breakfast). Served on a tray that floats right in your private pool – this is definitely a unique Bali breakfast experience – and also one that makes for a great photo op!

Floating breakfast. I repeat, floating. Breakfast.

Floating breakfast is another excuse for a fabulous photo!

There are heaps of amenities at Banyan Tree. The staff can arrange for a wide array of tours around the island of Bali, but since you’re at a full-service resort – I suggest taking some time to enjoy the on-property amenities and facilities such as an afternoon tea offered daily (with a reservation).

My favorite indulgence at the Banyan Tree was a “back reviver” massage at the spa. My back suffers the most from working on a computer all day, every day and traveling often on planes so when I saw a specific massage for back pain – I knew I had to have it! I went on to have the best massage of my life (if you’re planning to book a spa appointment at Banyan Tree – request Aryani – she was amazing!). I’ve had heaps of massages, at many resorts, all around the world and nothing relieved my tension and pain the way that Aryani did.

After my massage, I was given a few moments of alone time to enjoy a delicious lemongrass and honey tea and some fresh fruit.

If you’re looking for luxury in Bali – look no further than Banyan Tree. From the lush property to the gorgeous location, to the friendly staff to the amazing amenities and offerings – The Banyan Tree Ungasan has everything you could hope for in a luxury stay in Bali, and then some.

Can we talk about this level of pampering? I would not want to return to normal life after that amazing experience! I will definitely keep this incredible place in mind when I eventually plan a trip to Bali!

I’ve locked in a 5 night stay at the Banyan Tree. Are there any restaurants in the surrounding area that you recommend?

    • Jacklyn Shields says:

Sure! I liked He’enalu Cafe & Drifter Cafe, Oneeighty is supposed to be really good and you really can’t go wrong with a local Warung in Bali!
