Before I go into the adrenaline rush that is driving a Lamborghini Aventador I’m going to fill your brains with some crazy stats about one of the fastest Lamborghinis ever made. Firstly, if you’re looking to buy one of your own you have to wait. Not just the average 2-3 week wait for a new car purchase, I’m talking a minimum of a year and a half; the current wait list for an Aventador is 18+ months. If you’re really serious about purchasing this marvelous machine you should also have a serious pile of cash, the average Aventador customer has a net worth of over $10 million and with a base price of $393,695, one might understand why.
With a whopping 691 horsepower this 6.5-liter V12 tops out at 217 miles per hour (for those of you who don’t speak ‘car’ it means it has a really powerful, really large engine). Before you ask, no, I did not top this car out! What’s also pretty impressive is that this supercar is surprisingly fuel efficient. Now, I’m not going to compare it to my Fiat as that simply isn’t fair but considering the Aventador comes with such a large, powerful engine the fact that it gets 11 miles to the gallon in the city and 17+ on the highway is actually extremely efficient. (To put it into perspective, I drove a Range Rover that was getting 8-14 miles to the gallon and it most certainly didn’t have 617HP, V-12 engine.)
Now, what does it feel to behind the wheel of this super-car? In a word: euphoric. Dictionary.com defines the adjective euphoric as, “intensely happy or confident” and that is exactly how you feel behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Aventador, profoundly happy and fiercely confident. My ego went from “undetermined” on the resiliency scale to “very high” in a matter of 2.8 seconds (the amount of time it takes to go from completely stopped to 60mph).
The speed of the Aventador is impressive, the design is futuristic and the sound is absolutely impeccable. The engine has a loud hum that almost sings as it accelerates and the exhaust (when its not blowing out flames) emits a sound that channels what might occur if a beautiful whistle made love to a tiger’s roar. The combination of the sounds from the engine and exhaust makes for a sound on the road that not everyone hears everyday so as you can imagine driving an Aventador is quite the spectacle. Four out of five people on the street turn around, point or have their cell phones out to take a picture. The attention that the Aventador receives is unparalleled and the feeling of being in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that people are stoked to simply see, is a definite once in a lifetime feeling.
Now, you may not have nearly half a million dollars to fork over for a car but if you have a rainy day fund you might want to tap into it (on a sunny day, of course) to rent this super car for the day. My friends over at Super Cars of Miami would gladly put you in an Aventador for the day and they’ll even give you a nice discount if you mention that Jackie sent you.
