Living Like Royals in Positano, Italy: Hotel Palazzo Murat

When researching hotels to stay in Positano – Hotel Palazzo Murat instantly stood out to me: former palace turned hotel with a botanical garden? Right up my alley. The former palace owners were Giacchino Murat and Carolina Bonaparte (Napoleon’s sister) and the whole property has an airy, whimsical aura – striking curiosities of if walls could talk.

I arrived to Positano by ferry and the hotel was a short 5-10 walk from where the ferry ported by the beach (depending how quick you are to pass the shops without gazing a bit). Another major selling point on Palazzo Murat is the location. Located smack in the middle of the city you can walk practically anywhere with ease (although no matter where you walk in Positano you can expect a lot of stairs and inclines – so take “with ease” lightly).

I was greeted at Palazzo Murat with smiling faces and the most delicious fresh lemonade I’ve ever tasted in my entire life, literally – no exaggeration. It was refreshing after walking up from the beach over-dressed for the unseasonably warm-humid day in late October. (So refreshing that I sipped before I photographed – oops!)

I checked into my room and immediately went down to see the rest of the property, the weather was iffy and I wanted to make sure I got the most of the day before (if) it rained. I went down to the pool which not only had gorgeous ocean views but 180 degree views of the iconic Positano building facades.

The five type of guest rooms range from “Double Room with Garden View” to “Special Deluxe” all of which boast unique decor, only synonymous in that they all are decorated luxuriously with antiques and local ceramics. I stayed in two different rooms on each of my two nights at Palazzo, the first had a balcony with a garden view and the second room had a balcony with city views. Both rooms had extremely comfortable beds as well as huge bathrooms with bathtubs and all modern amenities.

The wifi signal was really strong in both rooms, (which is a luxury in itself for a location independent individual like myself – who has to work while I travel) there was also a TV and iPod dock in the room. Room service was available until 11:30pm at night.

From the service (consistently with a smile) to the breathtaking Positano views to the luxurious rooms and everything in between – Palazzo Murat is the perfect location for your Amalfi Coast Vacation in Positano.
